Dairy pricing policy, production, and water quality: Application to the Chesapeake Bay watershed

This study assesses the economic and water quality impacts of implementing a dairy pricing policy under Federal Milk Marketing Order system designed to alleviate milk prices plummet occurred at beginning pandemic. Using 12-region, positive mathematical programing model livestock production in Chesapeake Bay watershed, we find that induces significant expansions sectors, generates higher level total net revenue regions having large base-period sectors. For quality, leads an increase nitrogen emissions but decrease phosphorus for industry as whole most studied regions.
